The Hardware Behind World’s Largest LED Sign

The world’s largest LED sign lit up in New York (where else besides Times Square?wink on Friday and Gizmodo got to see how it works up close and behind the scenes. Follow the jump for pics, specs, and details. Now that’s a [H]ard video setup!

Each side of the sign, designed by D3 LED, requires a 48-drive RAID pumping data at a rate of 3.2GB/second to a custom-built PC. From there, the data is fed through graphics cards to multiple DVI pipes, which lead to six DVI pixel splitters (known as a Spyders).
