3DRealms Comment On Departures
Joe Siegler has commented on the recent departure of 10 employees from 3DRealms. The overall gist of what he says is “it’s the nature of this business”.
There's honestly nothing to be concerned about. People leave. People come. There's staff on the project you don't know about. You know some, you don't know most. There's truly nothing to worry about. I know from your end it would seem bad, and if I wasn't still working here and knew more, I'd probably feel the same way. I'm not worried about my paycheck.
We aren’t sure how this will all turn out but 3DRealms has suffered setbacks like this in the past and weathered them just fine. In our recent Prey review we covered the first “mass exodus” from 3DRealms that occurred in August 1996 and another in 1998.
3DRealms’ head honcho, George Broussard, made these comments at Shacknews:
Physics and animation systems are virtually finished and shippable. It's simply maintenance and polish from here on out. We haven't needed to make substantial changes to those systems in months. The changes we have made, were made without great effort. Things are never as bleak as they appear, as is often the case when you simply have one side of the story.
I'm glad to see that Shack is now a major investigative new source. I alone, have secret insider info on half the developers in the industry and their secret unannounced projects, their departures, layoffs and other internal politics. If you really want to open up the site to being the next BitchX or FatBabies, it shouldn't be too hard to solicit reputable sources (anon developers or their friends) to provide you with all the information you need. It's all 'news' :)
Not sure why there would be animosity towards Shacknews, they are simply reporting the news, not creating it.
