Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120 Revision B & C Review
All hardware enthusiast and many gamers are very much aware of just how good Thermalright's Ultra Extreme 120 (TRUE) CPU heatsinks are. Contenders over the last two years have been few. Today the original TRUE vs. TRUE Rev. B and the TRUE Rev. C. Thermalright decided to challenge itself and give the enthusiast a better product.
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme Rev. C
The TRUE Revision C is a minor update made to the TRUE even before the Rev. B was released to the public. In an effort to make the TRUE quieter Thermalright has lessened the amount of fins from fifty-three down to forty-eight and spaced them, ever so slightly, further apart. This means that you can use a fan with lower static pressure and hopefully retain the great performance we’ve come to expect from the TRUE. The hole down the middle is still present and appears to have received no changes to its shape or size.

Nothing has changed in packaging from Revision B to C.

Contents & Flatness
Thermalright tosses in all the hardware in a pouch along with a quick install guide which is handy thanks to the new mounting system.
The base of the TRUE Rev. C shows a very smooth base and if you look to the far left about half way down from the top you can just spot an anomaly. With all the heat sinks we have reviewed it has been rare to spot exactly what it is we look for. Thankfully that spot is so far off to the side it should have no impact on our testing. I point it out merely as a reference as to what we look for when checking the flatness of a base.
Photos
Here are a few photos of the TRUE Rev. C comparing it to the Rev. B as well as the original TRUE.
If you’re wondering what has changed don’t worry the changes are very hard to spot without knowing what to look for. First from the original to the Rev. B is the hole cut out of the fins down the middle. Secondly, the length of the heat pipes protruding from the top has been minimized. Moving from Rev. B to Rev. C Thermalright kept the previously mentioned changes and reduced the amount of fins on the TRUE. This allows better performance when using a slower speed fan.
Installation & Contact
Nothing has changed here from Rev. B to C so I’ll save you from any meaningless commentary and simply show you how the base made contact with the CPU.
Solid contact all around thanks to an easy to use mounting system.
