Seasonic M12D-850 Power Supply

Seasonic is a common name to the computer hardware enthusiast that pays attention to his power supply. Seasonic in many ways has become the de facto standard when it comes to quiet PSUs. Today it states it is the new standard in silent computing. So what's new?

Introduction

In the power supply realm when consumers think of quiet and efficient power supplies the first company that comes to mind is Seasonic and today have our second crack at a Seasonic branded unit. This review marks the first Seasonic power supply available in the US that is billed as being capable of outputting more than the 750 watts that we saw in the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 and it is considerably more powerful than the S12II-500 we last saw.

Seasonic is one of the older companies producing consumer power supplies having been founded in 1975 and entering the PC power supply production market in 1980. To date Seasonic has had a rather limited branded presence in the US market as they provided OEM services for a number of popular brands including Corsair, Antec, and PC Power & Cooling. Today, however, Seasonic is marketing more of its own units in the US and in the process leap-frogging all of its partners in capacity by releasing the M12D-850. So what we have here today is a modular, 850 watt power supply from what many people consider to be the "King of Quiet Power Supplies," and that certainly can't be a bad thing.
