Super Talent Atomic Juice PS-700 Power Supply
Let's face it, when you use the words, "Super" and "Talent" to name your company, then come back with "Atomic" and "Juice" to brand one of your computer power supply product lines, there has got to be a story to tell hardware enthusiasts.
Introduction
Super Talent Technology is a somewhat older US based technology company that is most familiar to enthusiasts because of their production and marketing of high performance memory modules and flash based solutions. However, like some other notable companies that produce high performance memory modules, Super Talent has also begun branding some products beyond their traditional scope including what we are interested in today, power supplies. These first examples are in the Atomic Juice line and range from 600w to 700w with today’s example being the Atomic Juice PS-700. While Super Talent is a US based manufacturer and does provide OEM services in their most experienced field of memory, their current power supplies are sourced from the ever popular Chinese/Taiwanese based FSP.
FSP Group is one of the few actual power supply manufacturers and can be found providing OEM services for a number of other brands FSP at various times including OCZ, Zalman, AOpen, Antec, and many more including today’s review of Super Talent. This wide distribution of power supplies by FSP is not surprising given that they have been in business since 1993 and are one of the top 10 producers of power supplies (currently ranked 6th) coupled with being widely regarded as a manufacturer of basic “workhorse” power supplies that just get the job done, though some of their more recent high powered members of certain platforms have been plagued by power quality issues.
It’s Nukular (or is that Nuclear?)
There are only so many ways to set a product apart when a user is looking at a name or paper specifications and Super Talent has hit upon a branding for their power supplies that sounds vaguely power related while sticking in a users mind with the Atomic Juice branding (which sounds like some sort of hybrid environmental disaster made up of equal parts Love Canal and Chernobyl). Beyond the name Super Talent is positioning the Atomic Juice line of power supplies as being the perfect fit for user’s "Dream System" as we find from their webpage:
•Engineered and manufactured to support intense power needs, the Atomic Juice series of Power Supplies are ideal for high performance and gaming systems.
Delivering either 600 or 700 Watts of continuous power, these power supplies are perfect for dual-GPU setups, supporting the latest ATX12V v2.2 platform and are also designed to power earlier ATX v2.0 systems.
•The ultra-quiet 120 mm fan corresponds with temperature sensors, offering greater RPM and airflow as needed.
•With one Main MB connector (20 + 4 pin), two 12V (CPU 4 pin), one 12V (PCI-e 6 pin), one 12V (PCI-e 6+2 pin) six (SATA 15 pin), two floppy, and six (4 pin accessory) connectors, you have more than enough capacity to run the latest generation of CPU and graphic hardware on the market.
•The Atomic Juice PSU's feature high-quality components, complete with a ball bearing fan, to ensure your vital hardware is supplied with clean, stable and reliable power without compromise.
•The universal AC input 100 ~ 264 Vac, is automatically switched and adjusts the hardware to operate at the available input voltage. Quad 12 V rails provide independent and reliable power to your CPU(s), your video card(s) and to the other components of your rig.
•With an MTBF of over 100,000 hours and an industry leading 5 year warranty, you are equipped for years of worry free operation.
•This is a great power solution for your dream system - boot up today!
The majority of these highlighted features really have become standard fare on higher end power supplies and from these paper specifications don't provide any real outstanding features. The downside here is that the 600w-700w field has a lot of power supplies from high quality brands these days, but the Atomic Juice does have a catchy name to set it apart from most of those units. Moving on let’s see what we can expect when a user purchases the Super Talent Atomic Juice PS-700 supply in retail in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, general build quality, and see if the Atomic Juice can differentiate itself other than by its name alone.
