Hiper Type-M 880w Power Supply

Hiper aims for the enthusiast with a new 880 watt computer power supply that seems to have all of its ducks in line. If you have ever wondered why we think DC quality output is just as important as carrying the load, the Hiper 880w is a perfect example of that.

Introduction

High Performance Group (Hiper) is a company whose products are better known to our friends across the pond than to those of us in the States, however Hiper produces a range of products like many of the companies featured in our reviews including their own branded line of power supplies. The Hiper branded power supplies currently available on the market run the gamut from 350w to 880w across a number of model lines denoted by their “Type-“ prefix including today’s model the Type-M 880w (HPU-4M880-PS). Unlike the last Hiper product we saw the (Type-R in our $50 Roundup) the Type-M 880w is not sourced from Andyson but rather from CWT.

Channel Well Technology (CWT) was founded and began manufacturing power supplies in 1993. Since 1993 Channel Well Technology products have shown up under various guises including Antec, Xclio, 2theMax, CWT, Thermaltake, and now Corsair. While most familiar to our US users from when they used to provide OEM services for Antec, CWT is one of the more complete OEM manufacturers as they have a fairly high level of vertical integration providing transformers all the way up to their well designed independently regulated SMPS. Recently however, CWT has begun stretching out and is providing OEM services for a number of brands as today’s unit demonstrates.
