Facebook Yanks Presidential Assassination Poll

What is a surefire way to end up being interrogated by the Secret Service? Post an idiotic poll like this on your Facebook page. The second best way? Respond to the aforementioned poll. Idiots. roll eyes (sarcastic)

"The USSS [Secret Service] sent us an e-mail late this morning PDT asking us to take it down. At that point, it had already been removed, and we let them know." Schnitt said the application "was immediately suspended while the inappropriate content could be removed by the developer and until such time as the developer institutes better procedures to monitor their user-generated content."

Raise your hand if you think this is going to work.

There's been a lot of talk this year about finally charging readers for news, especially on mobile devices, where media executives see a chance to condition consumers to handing over a few dollars for a constant stream of updates to their pocket. CNN is among the first big news outlets to give it a shot. Its app costs $1.99 to download.

AMD's ATI Eyefinity Technology Review

Let me apologize up front for some of our production issues with this video. The audio could be a lot better, but there were some issues beyond our control. Also there are several spots that I misspoke. The card being shown off is the Radeon HD 5870. The 5850 and 5770/50 cards will also natively support Eyefinity, but obviously exhibit different performance.

US 'To Loosen' Grip on Internet

According to the BBC, the U.S. government is supposedly going to relax its control over the internet but the details of the agreement have not yet been released.

"The US government is the only body to have had formal oversight of Icann's policies and activities since its inception in 1998," it said. "The Commission believes that Icann should become universally accountable, not just to one government but to the global internet community.

Alcatel Boosts Fiber Speed to 100 Petabits in Lab

Alcatel has announced that it has set an optical transmission record by delivering roughly 400 DVDs worth of data over 7000km in a second. That stupid "I downloaded the internet" shirt may finally be in fashion (probably not).

Alcatel-Lucent today said that scientists at Bell Labs have set an optical transmission record that could deliver data about 10 times faster than current undersea cables, resulting in speeds of more than 100 Petabits per second.kilometer. A petawhat? This translates to the equivalent of about 100 million Gigabits per second.kilometer or sending about 400 DVDs per second over 7,000 kilometers, roughly the distance between Paris and Chicago.
