Another Apple Ad Banned

Apple is getting quite the track record in the UK isn't it? This is the second iPhone ad to be banned this year for being misleading. This time around, the powers that be decided that Apple’s claims of “really fast” are really misleading. What is misleading? Apparently claiming you can do all this in 30 seconds:

Digital Sales Surpass CDs at Atlantic

It looks as though digital music has finally surpassed CD sales for at least one record label. My guess is that most record labels will be able to say the same thing by this time next year (at the latest).

Atlantic, a unit of Warner Music Group, says it has reached a milestone that no other major record label has hit: more than half of its music sales in the United States are now from digital products, like downloads on iTunes and ring tones for cellphones.

German Traffic Lights Controlled By Linux

A major European company specializing in traffic management systems uses Linux on the PCs that control all the traffic lights in Germany. What, no Windows or OS X?

Signalbau Huber’s installations comprise one or two central traffic management systems per city. These are typical PC systems — “not so big as you might think,” Lock said — with lots of network connectivity and database-based application software. Connected to these systems by VPNs,

PC Hacked Into an Old Dreamcast

This PC modded into a Dreamcast is pretty damn spiffy. Well, that is unless you are a die hard Dreamcast fan, then you might be a little upset. I snagged a couple pictures for those of you too lazy to click the link.

Google Revamps Street View Interface

Google’s Street View has a new look. Some of the new features include a mini-map and the ability to drag the marker anywhere you want it. Ironically, there is an issue with Street View if you are running Chrome that makes the viewing area turn solid black.

One big change: to activate the Google Maps feature, you drag the "Pegman" character off the top of the zoom slider and drop him where you want to see. It's a lot faster than enabling Street View through a drop-down then clicking where you want to go.

Motherboard Shipments Expected to Drop 15%

According to the Economic Daily News, fourth quarter motherboard shipments are expected to drop fifteen percent on weak demand. Given the fact we are in the middle of a global economic slow-down, I’d say fifteen percent sounds about right.

Motherboard shipments in the fourth quarter this year are expected to drop 15% on quarter, and performance next year will be worse than in 2001, when the demand hit rock bottom, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report citing figures from Goldman Sachs.
