SEC Suit Recommended Against Google Director

It would seem one of Google’s board members could find herself on the receiving end of a Securities and Exchange Commission lawsuit regarding stock option transactions made while she was chief financial officer at Pixar.

"On April 23, 2008, Ann was advised by the staff of the Los Angeles office of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it intends to recommend that the SEC initiate a civil proceeding against her, alleging violation of federal securities laws related to certain stock option transactions involving her former employer, Pixar Animation Studios," Google said in a regulatory filing Monday.

Yahoo Banner Ads Infecting Visitors With Malware?

This could prove to be bit embarrassing for Yahoo if these allegations turn out to be true. The guy seems to have done his homework though.

Attackers who inject their banners onto reputable sites usually take advantage of the highly decentralized way that online advertisements are sold. It’s not unusual for there to be a succession of affiliates, making it possible for an attacker to pose as an authorized agent of a name-brand product or service.

Gamespot's review of GTA IV is very insightful while not giving away too much of the game. Worth a look if you are wondering whether or not GTA IV is your thing or not. But obviously most of you degenerates will groove on it. Mine and Steve copies are on the way for Xbox 360. Possibly NSFW.

Mac parody ads are nothing new. Most of the time they are created by end-users, PC owners or people that just like to make fun of Apple (*cough* me *cough*). So, imagine my surprise when I saw this MacBook Air parody….made by Lenovo.

IBM Increases Dividend 25 Percent

IBM, in an effort to show the world it can do well in a sagging economy, just announced a 25 percent increase in its dividend payout. I guess that’s a good way to bolster confidence. . . money.

The move comes two weeks after the Armonk, N.Y.-based company reported a 26 percent jump in profit and raised its earnings forecast for the year. The company also plans to spend $12 billion buying back its shares in 2008. IBM shares rose 69 cents to $122.38 in midday trading.

Vista SP1 Also Halted

This is a bit of an update to the story posted earlier, but just so everyone knows… Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3 have been halted. I know there are a bunch of websites out there telling you that they are available through Windows Update but that is incorrect. Both Vista SP1 and WinXP SP3 have been pulled for now.

GTA IV Running At 630P On PS3

While Xbox 360 owners are enjoying 720P GTA IV gaming goodness, it seems that the PS3 folks are only getting 630P. What does that mean? Did Rockstar invent a new HD resolution? Did someone steal the other 90P? The answer isn’t as sinister as people try to make it out to be.

So if GTA IV is running at only 630P on the PS3, that does mean PS3 gamers are seeing 90 less lines of resolution—or quite a bit from a relative standpoint. And it's fast-approaching the Wii's standard def, 480p output.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release to Web Delayed

Windows XP SP3 release to web date has been delayed thanks to a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System. Surely this won’t have an impact on most of you but it is something you should all be aware since SP3 is no in the wild.

In the last few days, we have uncovered a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and both Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). In order to make sure customers have the best possible experience, we have decided to delay releasing Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) to the web. To help protect customers, we plan to put filtering in place shortly to prevent Windows Update from offering both service packs to systems running Microsoft Dynamics RMS. Once filtering is in place, we expect to release Windows XP SP3 to the web.

Cox Eyes Online Growth, Buys Startup For $300M

It literally took me ten minutes to stop laughing at the unintentionally funny headline “cox-eyeing-online-growth,” before I could post this story. The company is eyeballing a small startup that claims to be a perfect fit for Cox. Well, if you think $300 million is a perfect fit, I guess it's a good deal. This shouldn't come as a surprise, Cox has recently expanded into several areas across the country, including online ads.

The all-cash deal with Adify Corp., to be announced Tuesday, represents the latest evolution for a media company that began more than a century ago with one newspaper in Dayton, Ohio. As new technologies emerged, Cox expanded to include radio, television and cable systems across the country.

Computerized Combat Glove

Get this, a new computerized combat glove that allows soldiers to operate wearable computers while still holding their weapons. The device is not without its faults but seems better than having to whip out a keyboard and mouse when you are under fire.

For soldiers carrying a plethora of equipment, finding and using electronic controls on their bodies can be awkward, says Forrest Liau, the president and cofounder of RallyPoint. "We wanted to make a device that would have all the necessary components in a combat-ready way," he says. The Natick Soldier Systems Center in Natick, MA, has a contract with RallyPoint and is currently testing a prototype of the glove, called a Handwear Computer Input Device (HCID), for use with its electronic systems.
