All Of You Need To Grow Up!

Yes, I am talking to you! You need to grow up and quit playing video games you slackers! Apparently all men are video game playing slackers or “child-men” and all we care about is drinking, video games and sex.

Single women in their 20s and early 30s are joining an international New Girl Order, hyper-achieving in both school and an increasingly female-friendly workplace, while packing leisure hours with shopping, traveling and dining with friends. Single young males, or SYMs, by contrast, often seem to hang out in a playground of drinking, hooking up, playing Halo 3 and, in many cases, underachieving.

Favoring Stores, Dell Closes Mall Kiosks

With Dell computers being sold damn near everywhere nowadays, I guess all those mall kiosks didn’t make much sense anymore.

Dell now sells computers and other devices in more than 10,000 stores around the world, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Best Buy Co., and the kiosks may be losing some of their novelty. Tony Weiss, the vice president of Dell's global consumer business, said closing the kiosks "fits in with how our broad global retail strategy is evolving."

U.S. Tops New Tech Usage Ranking

According to the Connectivity Scorecard, created by London Business School professor Leonard Waverman, the United States, Sweden and Japan topped a new ranking that measures how well countries use telecommunications technologies to boost their social and economic prosperity.

The study said the top-ranking United States, which has benefited the most from ICT, was rated below 7 out of 10, mostly due to weak usage of vast broadband networks, indicating there is room for improvement for all countries.

Internet Disrupted In Egypt And India

I guess chopping an international undersea cable in half is bad for the internet. Ya think?

Egypt's Telecommunications Ministry said a communications cable in the Mediterranean was cut, disrupting 70 percent of the country's Internet network. The ministry said in a statement it was not known how the cable was cut but that services would probably take several days to return to normal.

Swedish Bank Stops Digital Theft

A gang of Swedish criminals somehow placed some sort of device under a bank employee's desk that allowed them to take control of the person’s computer remotely. The plan was to drain millions from one account to another and they were seconds away from completing a digital bank robbery when an alert employee pulled the plug on the device, thwarting the heist.

The employee discovered the device shortly after he realized his computer had started an operation to transfer "millions" from the bank into another account, Nordenman said. "By pulling out the cable to the device, the employee managed to stop the intended transfer at the last second," he said.

MySpace Launches Developer Platform

MySpace, in a bid to widen the gap against rival Facebook, the world's largest online social network plans to launch a new program to court outside software developers.

Although few details were furnished ahead of MySpace's official launch of its platform, Kapur said the developer program would be rolled out globally in about 28 territories. "I will be focused on making a platform for developers to monetize and promote their applications," Kapur said in a phone interview.

China Steps Up Internet Video Control

China is tightening control over the internet? Yeesh!! How can they tighten it any more than it already is?

The rules are aimed at expanding a Chinese censorship system that tries to block Internet use to spread dissent while promoting it for business and education. Communist leaders are especially anxious about unflattering video showing up online ahead of the Beijing Olympics in August, a major prestige project.

Best Buy Sued Over Derogatory Job Reference

An ex-Best Buy employee claims that he has been blackballed at other computer retailers because Best Buy management was making derogatory statements about him to other prospective employers. What kind of statements? How about this:

"He was hired as GM and demoted after 12 months or so because he sucked. He is desperate for a job because supposedly his wife left him because he has no job. I would not touch him. Again, do not forward this e-mail to anybody or say where you heard the info from because we were not allowed to give this info out, but I would hate you to get stuck with this guy!"

The employee accused of making these statements has since been promoted to the Best Buy’s corporate offices. The company is currently investigating the claim. Thanks to [H] forum member “iseedeadpeople” for the heads up on this one.
