ASRock X79 Extreme9 LGA 2011 Motherboard

We have just posted our evaluation of the ASRock X79 Extreme9 motherboard today for those of you interested. If you are planning on migrating to the LGA 2011 platform, or just upgrading your motherboard, make sure you read today's review first.

Our experiences around here with ASRock haven't been the best. Though the last one we tested actually did really well. As a result of our great experiences with the Extreme4 we can only hope the ASRock X79 Extreme9 follows suit. The Extreme9 is ASRock's most expensive Sandy Bridge E motherboard, we hope it acts like it.

Where Are AMD's Official Drivers?

It has been over a month since AMD launched its new Radeon HD 7970 video card (here) yet consumers are still stuck using beta drivers. We talked about this very issue weeks ago but, with no official drivers to be found anywhere, the natives seem to be getting restless. Are you a Radeon owner waiting on official drivers? Why not weigh in with your thoughts in this forum thread, everyone else already is.

Replace Your Face

This is one of those videos where you are not sure if it is real or fake but you find yourself watching it anyway. I'm not sure why the reflection changes expression before the woman does at several points in the video but, if it is real, it is pretty damn cool.

Viewer's movement and expressions are mimicked by an animal's head which is overlaid on the viewer's reflection. From the viewer's perspective the animal image appears directly on top of their own.

Google Opening A Retail Store In Ireland?

Why in the world would Google open a retail store? What the hell would you buy in a Google store? "Hi, I'll take two internet searches, a map search and a Chrome browser please."

The application states that the store would sell "Google merchandise" to the public, and cover about 1,323 square feet of space in the Montevetro office block. While Google has an employee-only store in its California headquarters and a corner of Currys and PC World in London dedicated to selling laptops, this would be the first standalone Google retail location.

Back Tim Schafer's Next Game via Kickstarter

Tim Schafer, of Double Fine Productions fame, is financing his next game via Kickstarter. The company has already raised almost $600k with 33 days to go. For those of you that don't know, Double Fine is the studio behind games like Psychonauts, Brutal Legend, Stacking and more.

The world of video game design is a mysterious one. What really happens behind the closed doors of a development studio is often unknown, unappreciated, or misunderstood. And the bigger the studio, the more tightly shut its door tends to be. With this project, we're taking that door off its hinges and inviting you into the world of Double Fine Productions, the first major studio to fully finance their next game with a Kickstarter campaign and develop it in the public eye.

Foxconn Hit By Hackers

Hackers have stolen the usernames, passwords and personal information of every Foxconn employee and released the info on TPB and Pastebin. Well that's just great, now the employees are being exploited and victimized by hackers now too.

A group of hackers known as Swagg Security is taking credit for a breach of Foxconn security, resulting in the theft of usernames, passwords, and other private information. In a series of Twitter posts yesterday, the group boasted that it publicly released the information on the Pirate Bay Web site as well as on Pastebin. The attack grabbed the credentials of every Foxconn employee, according to 9to5Mac, including Terry Gou, CEO of parent Hon Hai Industries.

Enermax Fulmo Mid-Tower Case

PureOverclock has posted its review of the Enermax Fulmo case today and they seem rather impressed with the unit, calling it a "solid all-around mid tower case that boasts great styling, features, and value."

Enermax is probably not best known for their case designs; rather, they're very renowned for their power supplies, but they have produced several cases, and we've seen them to be typically rather garish creations. We're not fans of the outlandish, but the Fulmo mid-tower case is a distinct trend to the opposite; it's quite tasteful, and we're rather fond of the new restrained styling shown by Enermax.

Publishers Must Stop Pass-Locking Multiplayer Modes

Whether or not you are against the recent trend of game companies requiring online passes for multiplayer, I think you'll find this editorial rather interesting.

And while I'm here, allow me to challenge the notion that publishers pass-lock content for anything other than commercial gain, as opposed to guarding against financial loss. EA now typically online pass-protects multiplayer modes in projected hits (Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3), so don't think they opened up Syndicate in an altruistic display of heroism. No, they're re-launching a dormant franchise from the '90s, and they don't want to hobble its chances by selling half a game. Same goes for SSX...its online pass doesn't block an entire mode, but will affect how fast you unlock gear.
